Sentinel - Redtail Hawk in Cottonwood. 2011 18 X 24

I've been struggling with a painting of a river bend for over a month now, so I decided to go back to what I do well just to get my bearings again. I've wanted to do a painting of cottonwood because of the character a cottonwood has on it's bark. Recently had a big Redtail stalking the bird feeder recently too, so it is a natural addition to this late fall scene. Now back to my river bend!

Struggling with colors, scale, perspective you name it. This is for a commissioned piece and an odd shaped canvas I had to get stretched.  So more prototypes coming.

Beech Filters Late Fall Dawn 18 X 24 Acrylic

My favorite tree to paint is the American Beech. It has so much character, and keeps it's leaves very late into the fall. This painting is an experiment for a bigger painting.  

Drifted Hedge Row 18 X 24 2011

The same Christmas morning drive produced another phot I worked off. The sun was just peeking through on the horizon and highlighted a snow covered hedge row.

A morning drive in the country is inspiration for many of my paintings. Here a photo from a drive in the country near the Indiana - Illinois state line. This happens to have been Christmas morning 2010 and I took several photos I intend to paint. My next is a tree line covered in snow, with the sun peaking through the cloudy wintry sky.
